Communication – Argumentative Research Paper

You will use this week to research your argumentative topic, began your argumentative research paper that is your final exam and use your classmates for peer review.  Before you do this assignment check the Discussions tab. You had a discussion post (last week) that relates directly to this assignment. If you did not post, you must contact me for a topic.

Read Chapters 21 – 23 in your textbook and continue to review chapters 19-20 in your textbook for the upcoming research paper.  In addition please watch my videos relating to your Argumentative Essay TEST:

After watching my videos and reading chapters 19-23 you should be familiar with Argumentation and research processes. Now it is your turn to try it. For this TEST you will write a 700-1000 word (not including your title and heading) Argumentative essay over your approved topic.

Remember emotion has no room in this essay. Stick to the facts to support your argument. You must include aspects of personal responsibility and decision making in the choices of your argumentative topic. In your essay you will evaluate choices and actions, and relate consequences to your decision on the stance of your topic.  Feel free to include similar comments about personal responsibility regarding the opposing side of your topic.

You will have to use at least two outside sources (No Wikipedia or social media sources:Twitter, Facebook etc.).  You must correctly cite all sources in APA style both within your essay and on your reference page (see Chapters 21 and 22 in your book).  You should also consult the Online Writing Lab (OWL):  https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/

on correct APA citations both on your reference page and within your essay.  Here is a sample APA essay:

I want to encourage you to divide into groups or pairs to do peer editing for your essays.  This will benefit your grade.  Feel free to use the discussion forum or class email to communicate with your classmates.  Remember, every mistake a peer catches is one less that I will catch. When you contact your classmates about peer review, please email your essays no later than three days prior to the final deadline to give them ample time to critique and get it back to you.

Peer revised critiques should be emailed back to the classmate no later than 48 hours prior to the final deadline to give ample time to make changes.

As always, ALL assignments must be done in APA style, double-spaced, size 12 Times New Roman font.  See the sample APA essay
