Week 1 Assignment: Video Analysis
Observe a teacher’s ability to engage students in the learning process by selecting one of the 3 videos provided below. View the video at least three or four times and provide examples of those Key Behaviors you observed during the teacher’s instruction.
Use the following Key Behaviors below as a guide. You may submit a written narrative, digital analysis or screencast for this assessment.

Key Behavior 1: Lesson Clarity
- make ideas clear to learners who may be at different levels
- explain concepts in ways that help students follow along in a logical order
- have an oral delivery that is direct, audible to all students and free of distracting mannerisms
- informs learners of the lesson objectives
- knows ability levels and teaches at or slightly above learners’ current level of understanding
- provides review of summary at the end of each lesson

- develops unit and lesson plans that reflect the most relevant features of the curriculum guide or adopted text
- handles administrative and clerical interruptions efficiently
- stops or prevents misbehavior with a minimum of class disruption
- selects the most appropriate instructional model for the objectives being taught
- builds to unit outcomes with clearly definable events
Key Behavior 4: Promote Engagement in the Learning Process
- set rules that let pupils attend to their personal needs without obtaining your permission each time
- move around the room to monitor pupils’ seatwork
- ensure that independent assignments are interesting, worthwhile, and easy enough to be completed by each pupil
- minimize time-consuming activities, such as giving directions and organizing the class by writing the daily schedule on the board
- make abundant use of resources and activities that are at or slightly above a student’s current level of understanding
- avoid timing errors

- establish unit and lesson content that reflects prior learning
